Classic baked goods made the old fashioned way...by people! The Hurst Bakery has been providing the York Region and surrounding area with incredible quality baked goods for more than 20 years now. In this day of big-box market stores and super-sized grocery stores it's refreshing to see a small town family-owned and operated bakery. Even more satisfying are the flavours and colours you see in the display cases.

Luckily you can go back to that time when things were made by hand and with the best of ingredients...and it all comes back to you the second you walk through The Hurst Bakery's old fashioned wooden door and that glorious, sweet, and rich smell hits you like it did when you were a child (as you quickly wipe your saliva before anyone notices). Be careful though...you are now surrounded by fellow baked goods enthusiasts...and there is only one "world-famous-double-chocolate-brownie" left, and that guy just bought it!

The Hurst Bakery is a family retail bakery, owned and operated by Lee and Pauline Hurst since 1986. Lee and Pauline were both raised in Aurora, Ontario. Pauline is fourth generation "Auroran", and Lee moved to town at the age of four from England.

We have often been asked what nationality our bakery is and proudly explain that we are a Canadian bakery. Some of our customers seemed disappointed that we are not German, Italian, or French. We are a European style, Canadian bakery. Truly diverse.

Lee and I have worked together in the bakery since the beginning. He is the talent behind the pastries, breads, and baked goods while I look after the gift ware, candles, coffees and teas, and both of us work at keeping the comfortable atmosphere. He creates and I sell.

We are a scratch bakery. All of our products are made from the finest ingredients from recipes collected over the years by Lee and our kitchen staff. We use fresh dairy and fresh fruit in our products. Some bakeries use 'bake off' products or buy from wholesale bakeries to sell in their stores. We are very proud to say that all of our products are made at this location. By having the kitchen at the retail location, we are able to keep control of the freshness and quality of the products at all times.

We create wedding cakes and special occasion cakes. These cakes stimulate Lee's creativity and bring out his artistic side. Our promise for these cakes is that they taste as good as they look.

We also pride ourselves in customer service. We think we have the best customers anywhere!

As you can tell from the above information, we are proud of our community bakery! We cannot imagine doing anything else, or baking anywhere else!
